Title: Green Development Initiatives of Opple Lighting

"Lighting industry is an important supporter of energy conservation and carbon reduction, and the achievements made in ESG over the past three years are beginning to show," said Ma Zhiwei, Executive Vice President of Opple Lighting, at the 2024 Opple Lighting Wisteria Festival and Enterprise Open Week.

Established in 1996, Opple Lighting is a comprehensive lighting enterprise that integrates research and development, production, sales, and services. Additionally, Opple Lighting is the first in the industry to collaborate with SGS Standards Technical Services Company to conduct greenhouse gas emission verification and has committed to achieving a carbon-neutral plan.

So, how does a lighting company specifically implement green development?

Ma Zhiwei introduced that Opple Lighting has partnered with the energy business units and zero-carbon business units of several leading enterprises to provide professional lighting solutions for real estate, catering, and industrial lighting, with clients including well-known companies such as Vanke, Hongmeng, Huawei, and Alibaba.

In the household sector, Opple Lighting has created an integrated green, low-carbon, and smart energy solution of "power generation-electricity consumption-intelligent energy saving," improving the upstream and downstream power generation and consumption systems. In the commercial sector, Opple Lighting has developed highly efficient industrial lighting products that save over 35% energy and launched multiple park renovation and energy-saving and carbon-reduction projects.

In the street lighting sector, Opple Lighting has deployed approximately 1.6 million smart streetlight heads nationwide over the past five to six years, achieving over 60% energy savings compared to traditional streetlights. "Currently, at least half of the streetlights in the country are still traditional, presenting a huge potential for transformation," Ma Zhiwei said. Recently, Opple participated in the construction and completion of the road project in Nanan District, Chongqing, achieving a 46% energy-saving rate and reducing over 4,800 tons of carbon emissions annually.

By managing streetlights intelligently and through software, Opple Lighting is continuously improving the energy-saving level of lighting. Currently, Opple Lighting has implemented over a thousand projects and over a million smart emergency nodes nationwide, and its intelligent lighting solutions have been fully implemented in cities such as Chengdu and Wuhan.

Beyond the domestic market, Opple Lighting continues to deepen its presence in overseas markets. Since 2004, Opple Lighting has been expanding globally with its own brand, covering over 70 countries and establishing regional headquarters in the Netherlands, Dubai, and India.

Speaking of the experience of expanding the brand overseas, Ma Zhiwei has a deep understanding of the importance of ESG: "Doing business overseas, especially in Europe, the requirements for product ESG certification will be higher."

Today, Opple Lighting has integrated green development into its entire industry chain. Opple Lighting has targeted intelligent transformation of its manufacturing factories, achieving "lights-out factories" and earning the title of "National Green Factory." The company has installed a rooftop solar energy system covering 80,000 square meters in its park, which can provide 10 million kilowatt-hours of green energy annually, saving approximately 3,339 tons of standard coal and reducing 8,749 tons of carbon emissions, equivalent to planting 480,000 trees annually.

In 2024, Opple will replace all customer reception vehicles with pure electric vehicles and encourage employees to use public transportation for green travel through a points system and other incentives.

Not only does Opple Lighting use green electricity itself, but it has also established a dedicated organization to promote the green energy transformation, carbon emission certification, and carbon path tracking of its suppliers. Opple Lighting told 36Kr that the company will continue to promote the ESG concept and responsibility through professional institutions and teams.

Furthermore, Opple's product recycling and utilization system is continuously improving. In recent years, Opple has launched the "Opple at Home, Opple for Renewal" program, setting up "renewal stores" in communities to provide on-site lighting inspections and old equipment renovation services. It has also conducted strategic cooperation with companies such as Dulux for a complete set of "wall, ceiling, and lighting" renewal.

"We hope to lead the industry towards intelligence and health, breaking away from the 'scroll' of this industry," Ma Zhiwei said.
